Nervous Patient Care

Nervous Patient Care

At Impressions Dental Care in Nottingham, we have a special interest in the provision of care to patients with dental phobia or dental fear.

Dental Phobia Nottingham

For patients with higher levels of dental fear or dental phobia who really find it difficult to cope with treatment in the conventional way, we can provide care using sedation dentistry, dental sedation or IV sedation, to use its official name. In addition to this we also use the Dental Wand for patients with needle phobia.

Talk to Someone Who Cares

If you have dental phobia, high dental anxiety or are just a little nervous, we would really like to help you. If you would like to take the first step and speak to someone in confidence please give our practice manager Chris a call on 01159382577, send an email to chris@impressions-dental-care.co.uk, or complete our contact form.

There will be no pressure to make an appointment, just the opportunity to talk with someone who understands, cares and can help.

What Will Happen on My First Visit?

This depends on your level of anxiety, for most patients with dental phobia entering a dental surgery on their first visit, in an already unfamiliar environment is distressing, so we ask you to come along to the practice before hand, to meet the team and have an initial consultation over a tea or coffee, in a non clinical lounge environment. In some instances patients initially prefer to speak with us over the telephone, until they are confident enough to visit us at the practice.

For those patients whose level of dental phobia will allow them to enter the surgery on their first visit, we will carry out a full new patient consultation, where we will take X-rays and carry out a simple extended examination. You will have plenty of time to ask as many questions as you like, we will always take things at your pace and only carry out treatment when you are ready. Following your appointment if any further questions pop up, just give us a call and we will of course be more than happy to answer them for you.

How Much Will it Cost?

It is very important to us that you are comfortable with the practice and the staff before you book an appointments and incur any fees, so the initial consultation in a non clinical environment, is of course free of charge. Following this, the cost of a new patient examination on a separate occasion is £49.95. This price is fully inclusive of X-rays, treatment plans and estimates. Following your new patient examination, should you require any treatment, you will be provided with detailed treatment plans and estimates for your consideration. A guide to our fees can also be found on our payments page.

IV Sedation Nottingham

Intravenous sedation (IV Sedation) is a type of sedation dentistry in which the dentists use a proven, safe medication to keep you relaxed while completing the dental procedure. This drug is injected with a thin needle into a vein; it can be injected in the arm or in the back of your hand. You will remain conscious and will be able to respond to the dentist at all times, but will be much, much more relaxed. A lot of dental sedation patients tend to sleep through the procedure and have very little memory of the treatment afterwards.

Do All Patients With Dental Fear Require Sedation Dentistry?

Levels of dental anxiety vary from patient to patient, so sedation is not always necessary. Our sedation dentists Sam and Marlita are very gentle and caring and have successfully treated many patients with dental fear without sedation. Our ultimate aim is for our patients to be able to have treatment without dental sedation, but for those patients who really feel that they cannot cope the option is always there for them.

Is IV Sedation Safe?

IV sedation is extremely safe when carried out under the supervision of a specially trained dentist. All patients are fully assessed before the procedure, their vital signs are monitored throughout, our dentists and their assistants have undergone additional practical and theoretical sedation training and all undergo regular intensive refresher training at the SAAD (The Society for the Advancement of Sedation in Dentistry) training facility in London.

Can I Visit The Practice Before I Book an Appointment?

Of course, you are more than welcome to pop in at any time to meet the staff and have a look around. We have a relaxing consultation area, where you can sit and have a Tea or coffee with a member of staff who will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
